Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher Agree with Jurgen Klopp Over £77m Liverpool Transfer Target
Liverpool FC is reportedly in pole position to sign Inter Milan's highly sought-after midfielder, Nicolo Barella, for a potential transfer fee of £77 million. The 26-year-old Italian international has caught the attention of several Premier League clubs, including Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United. However, Liverpool's interest in Barella has been bolstered by the endorsements of club legends Steven Gerrard and Jamie Carragher, as well as manager Jurgen Klopp.
Inter Milan is said to be open to selling their 44-cap Italy international, with Liverpool leading the race for Barella's signature. The Reds have already initiated their recruitment drive by signing Alexis Mac Allister for an undisclosed fee and are looking to strengthen their midfield further.
Steven Gerrard, former Liverpool captain, praised Barella's performance against England in Naples, stating, "I watched him against England in Naples and he was involved in all parts of the game. He did really well against the England midfield; Jude Bellingham and Declan Rice. He's at a good age, as well, coming into his prime."
Jamie Carragher, while on punditry duty for CBS Golazo, also lauded Barella's abilities, saying, "I think he's probably one of the best in Europe playing in that tucked in, right-sided central midfield position. He's box-to-box and gets goals from there." Carragher further highlighted Barella's potential in the Premier League or at one of the Spanish giants, given his outstanding performance in winning the European Championships.
Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is no stranger to Barella's talents either. In a previous press conference, Klopp expressed his admiration for the midfielder, stating, "He's a really good player. He's a really good player and I like him a lot." Klopp also praised Barella's diverse skill set, describing him as aggressive, technical, and possessing the ability to run for extended periods.
With such high-profile endorsements from Gerrard, Carragher, and Klopp, Liverpool's pursuit of Nicolo Barella could prove to be a significant addition to their midfield. However, the Reds will need to fend off interest from other Premier League clubs to secure the £77 million transfer target.
